Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has called for extensive coronavirus screening in Kilifi County.
This follows news of Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi testing positive for Covid-19, with reports emerging that he had come into contact with many people within the county.
The DG refused to self-isolate himself after returning from an overseas trip.
It was reported that Saburi attended several events, including funerals in the county after flying back home.
He was forcefully put into isolation by state officials after he defied quarantine orders, with Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe warning that he would be arraigned after recovering.
The government is currently carrying out screening within Kilifi County, to establish any other coronavirus cases as a result of Saburi’s interactions with people.
On Sunday, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi announced that he had gone into self-quarantine following his contact with the DG.
He, however, noted that the results for his test came out negative.
CS Kagwe on Sunday evening confirmed eight more cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in Kenya to 15.
New measures were announced to help contain the virus, with Kenyans being urged to stay at home.
