Kandara MP Alice Wahome has challenged in court the government’s decision to withdraw her security detail.
Wahome has sought to know why her bodyguards and licensed firearms were taken away without any explanation.
The lawmaker said that she has no criminal record nor is she under any investigations on suspicion of crime.
The Tangatanga-allied MP believes that she has been targeted due to her firm political stance against the government.
“I believe that the arbitrary action and its timing when I have recently made remarks directed at the government in respect of impunity and bad governance is meant to harass and intimidate the petitioner from the political stand and position she has taken,” reads part of the court submissions
Further, Wahome says she has been living in fear of getting attacked, making it impossible for her to discharge parliamentary duties effectively.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai are the main respondents in the MP’s petition.
