Arsenal Football Club youngster Bukayo Saka has been named Young Player of the Year at the 2021 London Football Awards.
The 19-year-old saw off competition from teammate Emile Smith-Rowe, West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, and the Chelsea duo of Mason Mount and Reece James, to win the award at a virtual ceremony held on Tuesday night, 27th April.
Taking to his Twitter account, Saka said: “Thanks for the support this season. I’m grateful and thankful to the London Awards for awarding me the Young Player of the Year.”
Saka, who has been in fine form this season, has eight goals and seven assists in all competitions.
He has played a key role in helping his side to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Meanwhile, Tottenham striker Harry Kane was named the Player of the Season. He edged out teammate Son Heung-min, Declan Rice, Soucek, and Mason Mount to clinch the award.
Kane emerged as the top scorer and as the player who has contributed more assists this season (31 goals and 16 assists across all competitions).
The Goalkeeper of the Season award was handed to West Ham’s Lukasz Fabianski. He beat Edouard Mendy, Alphonso Areola, and Vicente Guaita to the award.
Brentford’s striker Ivan Toney was crowned the English Football League (EFL) Championship Player of the Year.
In the Women’s Super League, Chelsea’s Fran Kirby was named the Player of the Season.
West Ham boss David Moyes was awarded the Manager of the Season for his good performance with the team.
The London Football Awards recognise the best football players from London-based clubs every season.
These clubs are AFC Wimbledon, Arsenal, Brentford, Charlton Athletic, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leyton Orient, Millwall, QPR, Tottenham, Watford, and West Ham.
