Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Norwich City to sign Argentine international forward Emiliano Buendia.
Named the 2020/21 Championship Player of the Season, Buendia helped the Canaries’ to win the title and seal an immediate return to the English Premier League.
The 24-year-old netted 15 times, provided 16 assists and created more chances than any other player in the division.
His fine form also earned him the first international call-up to the Argentina squad for World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia.
“Aston Villa and Norwich City have reached an agreement for the transfer of Emiliano Buendia,” Villa said in a statement.
“As Emiliano is currently in the Argentina national team’s biosecure bubble, preparing for a World Cup qualifying match with Colombia on Tuesday evening, he will undergo a medical and complete the transfer after the game.”
In a separate statement, Norwich City said that the final confirmation of the transfer would follow upon completion of the player’s medical.
According to media reports, Arsenal were also interested in Buendia, but Villa were the first to meet Norwich’s demands with a £33 million ($47 million) offer.
Norwich signed Buendia from Getafe in 2018 for around £1.6 million.
