Audited IEBC Register Records 22.1m Voters

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday, 20th June announced that close to 22.1m voters have been registered for this year’s elections.

The electoral body managed to register 22,120,458 voters which is a 12.79 increase from the year 2017 which registered 19,611,423 voters.

IEBC has also reversed the illegal transfer of voters which affected 12 counties namely Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, Nyeri, Nairobi, Kakamega, Laikipia, Nakuru, Muranga, Nandi, Uasin Ngishu, and Kiambu.

According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, there will be 46,232 polling stations this year which is an increase of 13.08 per cent from 2017 which had 40,883 polling stations. were registered.

The polls body has also registered 10,444 diaspora voters, 7,000 prisoners and expunged 246,465 dead voters from the register.

IEBC is on Tuesday, 21st June expected to publish a gazette notice on the final register of voters that will be used during the 9th August elections.
