The Azimio One Kenya Running Mate selection panel has handed over the list of running mates to Raila Odinga for the final verdict.
The panel led by Dr Noah Wekesa announced on Thursday, 12th May that it had submitted three sealed names to the coalition’s flag bearer Raila Odinga.
Dr Wekesa stated that Raila will release the three names after which he will pick one person who will be his running mate.
According to Wekesa, the three names were submitted in the order of the marks all the prospective running mates had garnered out of a score of 100.
“The panel has recommended three names which have been submitted in order of priority. The members evaluated each and every candidate, the final decision was reached by averaging the contribution of each candidate,” stated Wekesa.
He said that the panel focused on the candidates’ electability for votes mobilisation, leadership dependability and technical expertise in campaigns among others.
The panel interviewed 10 candidates including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua, and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
Others vetted included Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya (Party of National Unity), Narc leader Charity Ngilu and her National Liberal Party counterpart Stephen Tarus.
Media reports indicate the panel had selected Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth and Kalonzo Musyoka as the best choice to deputise Raila Odinga.
