For months now, there has been a raging debate on whether President Uhuru Kenyatta should hand over power in 2022 or extend his term limit through another position.
Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has joined the the conversation, and Kenyans on social media are angry with him.
Posting on his official Instagram account, Owino said that President Kenyatta is fit to occupy the Prime minister position, which has been proposed in the envisaged Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
The controversial lawmaker noted that the Head of State was still young to retire from active politics.
“President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is the next Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya. My President is still young and we need him in the next government,” he indicated.
Well, the comment section was filled with mixed reactions, as many roasted the father of two.
A section of netizens accused the ODM parliamentarian of playing the system to help him get away with the alleged near fatal shooting of Felix Orinda popularly known as DJ Evolve.
The social media users conjectured that the former SONU leader was seeking sympathy from the President as a way of escaping the attempted murder charges levelled against him by the DPP’s office.
Others asked Owino to come clean on the sudden change of mind considering that he had been a fierce critic of Kenyatta’s adminstration before the “handshake.”
Kevin Mathu said: “Your sycophancy won’t exempt you from going through the justice system. We see the angle you are playing at….”
Gitonga J remarked: “Why don’t you go the Prime Minister position yourself and you are much younger? Wazee waende nyumbani.“
Three weeks ago, the President said that he is not scheming with ODM Boss Raila Odinga to prolong past 2022 as many have alluding.
“Our Constitution is very clear. You can only serve for a maximum of two term and it has been that since 1992. I won’t be the first one to go against our laws,” the Kenyan leader said.
