Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s only daughter, Ngina, is charting her own course in business. Her grandfather, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, was the founding President of Kenya.
Coming from a wealthy and powerful family, Ngina had the luxury of trying out everything she wanted, regardless of the financial consequences.
She wanted to forge her own career in the hospitality industry, away from the family’s multibillion-shilling empire.
The Green Experience restaurant is a luxurious hotel on the family’s tea estate in Kiambu County’s Lari area.
The restaurant is located in the same building where President Kenyatta lived in the early 1980s. The green tea estate’s ambience and scene are absolutely fantastic.
Clients can enjoy a guided nature walk around the massive tea estate and learn more about tea cultivation and production in the region, in addition to enjoying the great and delicious food.
The restaurant was opened on 5th May 2018, in a private ceremony in the backyard. Close family members and friends were in attendance. Musician Kavi Pratt and Nana Gecaga, both Ngina’s first cousins, were among those who attended the ceremony.
Nana, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, announced that the restaurant was open for business after praising it on Twitter.
“So yesterday, I got to be a part of #TheGreenExperience, which is an afternoon spent at a magnificent site where you are first educated and able to sample all of the unique tea varietals now grown in Kenya…then treated to a five-course meal.
“The food is cooked by one of Kenya’s newest and hottest chefs, and your host is one of Kenya’s newest architectural designers, who has paid close attention to details and your surroundings,” Nana wrote.
