United States President Joe Biden has congratulated President-elect William Ruto after the Supreme Court upheld his win.

President Biden, through the White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, also lauded Kenyans for conducting a peaceful election.

Karine said that the US looks forward to enhancing its partnership with Ruto and his government.

“We congratulate William Ruto on his election as President of Kenya. We also congratulate the people of Kenya on the conclusion of a peaceful electoral process,” Jean-Pierre said during a media briefing at the White House,” she said.

Karine also commended Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga for accepting the Supreme Court ruling on the presidential petition.

“We commend Raila Odinga and other candidates for abiding by the Supreme Court filling, a transparent electoral process and the peaceful adjudication of disputes are testaments to the strength of democratic institutions,” Karine said.

Biden committed to strengthening the long-standing partnership between US and Kenya “based on a commitment to democracy, security and economic prosperity.”

President-elect Ruto is set to be sworn in as the fifth president of Keny on 13th September.
