Bishop Godfrey Migwi

Congregants at House of Hope church in Kayole, Nairobi, now believe that their pastor, Bishop Godfrey Migwi bid them farewell on Sunday, November 28, but it was in parables. It was the last mass he presided.

During the service, they say Migwi conducted himself and unconventionally did things.

Mwangi Macharia, one of the pastors who has been working under the late bishop disclosed that the departed church minister conducted his last service in a manner to suggest that he knew he was leaving the world.

“I’m flashing back and realizing that he was saying goodbye to us. On that day, he did not like to help. Even when it came to saying our last prayer (The Grace…), he asked to lead it,” Maina said.

Last Saturday, Maina added that Migwi brought together several pastors and elders and slaughtered a goat for them.

“Curiously, he did not have many words on that day. He was just talking about peace and unity,” he said.

A church member identified as Wanjiku Nduo the man of the cloth was like a North Star in their lives.

“We are heartbroken and we did not expect his death to be so soon. On Sunday he looked fine and full of life,” she said.

Also, part of his sermon was about death. He preached about how the Biblical Paul gave long preaching during his last sermon.

“In my case, if I say for example this is my last sermon and I’m relocating to somewhere like America and never coming back, I know you will miss,” he said.

Cause of Death

Migwi was felled by High Blood Pressure, a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high.

On Thursday morning his health deteriorated while he was at home. An ambulance was called, but by the time it arrived, he has breathed his last. His body was transferred to Montezuma Funeral Home.

In August this year, he was admitted to the hospital for three days over the same condition.

During his lifetime, the Kikuyu gospel artiste was not without controversy.

His strong and controversial political opinions against opponents of Deputy President William Ruto saw him loved and hated in equal measures.

He had declared interest in the Mathioya parliamentary seat.
