Some boda boda riders in Mombasa are not just sitting back and waiting for the government to bail them out or suspend their operations in the campaign against the coronavirus. They have been thinking out of the box and the results are encouraging.
The Changamwe Sub-County Boda Boda Operators Association has mounted water tanks and is providing soap for the riders and passengers to wash their hands at their 70 stages.
Chairman Martin Oyoo has also said that to fight the epidemic, every rider carries a sanitiser for their passengers to use before boarding the motorbikes and after they alight.
Oloo urged the riders to care about their own safety as well as their passengers as the government continues coming up with measures to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
The riders lauded Governor Hassan Joho for not banning their operations during this trying moment, as has happened in Kilifi, Nakuru and Machakos counties.
Meanwhile, boda boda riders in Matuu Township in Machakos County a week ago called upon the government to provide them with hand sanitisers, saying that their lives were in grave danger.
