Citizen TV Kiswahili news anchor Mashirima Kapombe recently won the Merck Foundation Media Recognition Award 2020.
Her collaboration with colleague Dorcas Wangira on a story about the rise of gender-based violence during the Covid-19 pandemic scooped the first place in the Multimedia Category.
They were awarded Ksh54,000 each.
Mashirima Kapombe received congratulatory messages from friends, colleagues, and Kenyans, in general, but most importantly from comedian Kazungu Matano, who is better known by his stage name, Captain Otoyo. He is the father of Mashirima’s child
He penned one flattering note that could not have been ignored.
Captain Otoyo shared a screenshot of his message complimenting the broadcast journalist for winning the international award.
“Congratulations! Well-deserved, well-earned,” he wrote.
The two had an affair some time back and the product of their entanglement is a handsome young boy.
In 2014, the comedian, who is also a radio presenter with Milele FM, opened up about their relationship when he shared her photo on Facebook, saying: “A friend of my heart.”
Two years later, their affair reportedly hit rock bottom after another woman alleged that Otoyo had impregnated her and refused to take responsibility.
Not long ago, Mashirima dismissed reports that she was engaged to the humorist.
As was reported by Litkenya.com, she said that she was single and focused on raising her son, Kenga, and building her rising broadcasting career.
But here is another catch – the news anchor is open to dating again, but insists that her potential husband must be a Christian. Remember, Otoyo is a Muslim.
That said, it seems there are still some sparks between the two and we can only guess they have embraced co-parenting, so their baby is the key link.
