Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has hinted at rejoining the Tangatanga faction of the Jubilee Party, months after defecting to the Kieleweke side.
Addressing a group of Laikipia residents, Waruguru said her assessment over the last few months had concluded that Jubilee Party is in a state from which it cannot be redeemed.
“Last year, I decided to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta, but now my heart is somewhere else. I’m disappointed and I cannot continue hanging around,” she said.
The lawmaker noted the Cabinet has contributed to the resentment against the President in the Mt Kenya region.
“These Cabinet and principal secretaries are extremely arrogant. You go to their office to ask for a road, but they have no time for you. When the President visits a region, they don’t want local politicians to be involved,” Waruguru said.
She added that her supporters had advised her to quit Jubilee Party and join the DP Ruto-linked United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The Woman Rep said residents of the Mt Kenya region were identifying themselves with UDA because its leaders knew how to interact with the people.
“My people have told me that I should not allow myself to sink with Jubilee. So very soon I’m going to make a major announcement,” she said.
Waruguru, who is reportedly eyeing the Laikipia gubernatorial seat next year, left the DP’s camp last year.
She was ushered in into the ‘Handshake’ team after meeting ODM leader Raila Odinga at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi where she was “sanitised”.
Although she was one of the staunch supporters of the DP, Waruguru said then that her conscience would not allow her to follow a “hypocrite”.
She claimed that together with the DP and other Tangatanga politicians, they had launched numerous fake government projects in the name of development.
