The Chinese manager caught on video caning a Kenyan waiter for allegedly reporting to work late and three of his compatriots have asked High Court Judge Lucas Kimaru to have them deported.
Deng Hailan (caught on camera), Chang Yueping and Ou Qiang (chefs) and Yu-Ling (cashier) through their lawyer, Abdulhakim Abdullahi, claimed that they had suffered enough and were now ready to go back to China, as earlier ordered by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
However, the prosecution sought more time to consult over their application.
Justice Kimaru allowed the prosecution time to get directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On the video footage, Deng Hailan was filmed caning a worker at a Chinese restaurant in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, which led to his arrest by police.
On the video, the Chinese national was heard asking the waiter. which part of his body he prefers to be whipped.
On 13th February, CS Matiang’i issued a deportation order, but the four later filed an application challenging it, before it was suspended by the High Court.
