ODM leader Raila Odinga has urged Kenyans to consider burying their dead relatives where they die to avoid unnecessary travel that increases chances of the spread of Covid-19.
Raila, who was speaking during an interview with Jaramogi FM, said that transportation of dead bodies for burial exposed many people to the deadly virus.
The former Prime Minister observed that some of those who travelled for burials upcountry had ended up infecting their family members.
“It is time we abandoned some of our cultures and lifestyles. Let’s help the government fight this pandemic,” he urged
However, Raila remained optimistic that Kenya would win the fight against Covid-19 and encouraged Kenyans to keep observing the safety guidelines.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed the African Union special envoy for infrastructure to chair a post-coronavirus Economic Recovery Committee.
Kenya has recorded more than 1,000 Covid-19 cases and 50 deaths.
