Machakos County Assembly has today, 1st July, approved a Ksh11 billion budget for the 202-2021 financial year.
The budget was read in the assembly last week by Deputy Governor Francis Maliti, who also happens to be the county finance minister.
The ministries of health and roads got the highest allocations.
Speaking to reporters in Machakos Town this morning after a special sitting, the chairman of the budget and appropriation committee in the House, Dominic Mulwa Ndambuki, said all the wards would be assured of development.
Ndambuki said that Ksh1.7 billion of the budget would be locally generated revenue, Ksh8 billion from the equitable share from the national government, while the rest would come from charity funds.
The health sector was allocated Ksh88 million to boost the fight against Covid-19.
County Assembly Deputy Speaker Paul Museku, who is the Mumbuni North MCA, urged the county government to ensure that all the residents benefit from the just approved budget allocations.
Minority Leader Alex Kamitu, who is the Tala MCA, said the lawmakers expect the best from the government.
“We are looking up to Governor Alfred Mutua and the chief officers to ensure all the wards receive their allocations,“ he said.
