A Nairobi court has issued an order stopping several entities from commenting on Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s attempted murder case.
Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi on Wednesday, 8th July, gagged the media, bloggers, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Director of Criminal Investigations from commenting on the case in which the controversial lawmaker is accused of shooting Felix Orinda alias DJ Evolve.
Babu Owino went to court after NTV aired a story about DJ Evolve’s recovery following his hospitalisation with a gunshot wound allegedly inflicted by the MP at B-Club in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, in January.
The MP’s lawyers, Cliff Ombeta and Dunstan Omari, told the court that the DPP had recently incited Embakasi East constituents, urging them to recall the lawmaker.
Babu Owino was charged in January with attempted murder. He was released on a Ksh10 million cash bail, which was later reviewed to Ksh5 million after his appeal.
The lawmaker’s case will be heard on 11th August, 2020.
