Covid-19: 236 Patients Recover as 3,297 Test Positive

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday, 29th December confirmed 3,297 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours. This brings the country’s caseload to 288,951.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement issued in Nairobi that the cases were detected from 9,637 samples tested, raising the total to 3,009,185. The country’s positivity rate stands at 34.2 per cent.

From the new cases, 3,065 are Kenyans while 232 are foreigners with 1,541 being males and 1,756 females. The youngest is a one-month-old infant while the oldest is 101.

Kagwe said 236 patients have recovered, 173 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 63 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 250,963.

Sadly, eight patients succumbed to the virus pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,372.

There are 835 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 21,692 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care Programme.

Some 198 patients are in the ICU, 19 of whom are on ventilatory support and 20 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 55 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 173 of them being in the general wards and 25 patients are in the High Dependency Unit.
