Covid-19 Cases Rise to 312,572 After 1,034 Test Positive

Kenya has recorded 1,034 new Covid-19 cases from 4,975 samples tested in the last 24 hours. This has raised the national tally to 312,572.

There have so far been 3,104,457 cumulative tests. The Covid-19 positivity rate stands at 20.8 per cent.

In a statement issued on Monday, 10th January, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 851 are Kenyans while 183 are foreigners with 530 being females and 504 males. The youngest is a five-month-old child while the oldest is 103 years.

Some 3,611 patients have recovered from the disease, 3,493 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 118 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 268,573.

Sadly, eight patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in December 2021 and January 2022. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,454.

There are 1,225 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 23,107 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

At the same time, 45 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 44 of them on ventilatory support while one is on supplemental oxygen.

Another 308 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 303 of them are in the general wards. 5 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 9th January 2022, a total of 10,609,955 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 6,047,125 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,486,533.

Another 24,326 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 51,971 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.7 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 16.5 per cent. The government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
