Covid-19 Cases Soar to 175,337 as 161 Test Positive

The Ministry of Health has announced 161 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the national tally to 175,337.

The cases were from the 2,805 samples tested. This brings to 1,866,825 the cumulative number of samples tested. The country’s positivity rate stands at 5.7 per cent.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 13th June, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that 158 of the new cases are Kenyans and three are foreigners.

The latest infections, include 80 males and 81 females, while the youngest is a two-month-old infant and the oldest is 91.

The national death toll rose to 3,410, after 14 more patients succumbed to the virus.

Health CS Kagwe said 177 patients had recovered, 113 from home-based isolation and care while 64 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries stands at 120,208.

There are 957 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,796 patients are in home-based isolation and care.

Some 155 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 of whom are on ventilatory support, 106 on supplemental oxygen and 20 patients are under observation.

Another 108 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 103 of them in general wards and five in High Dependency Units (HDU).
