Kenya has recorded 713 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours.

The infections were diagnosed following examinations of 5,230 samples during the same period.

Today’s positivity rate stood at 13.6 per cent, way above the five per cent recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The country’s Covid-19 case load has now settled at 110,356.

In the latest update issued by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, 12 more patients have succumbed to the virus.

The total number of deaths now stands at 1,898.

However, 167 patients have been treated successfully from the respiratory illness, raising the cumulative recoveries to 87,903.

Medical experts have warned that the country could be experiencing a third wave.

This has attributed to flouting of Covid-19 preventive measures and detection of new variants.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Friday, 12th March, give a State of the Nation address on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

There were hopes that the Head of State would lift the night curfew, but data coming from the Ministry of Health in the last two weeks could compel him to extend it.
