Covid-19 Positivity Rate Drops to 13.5PC as 813 More People Test Positive

The Ministry of Health has announced 813 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the national tally to 314,490.

The cases are from the 6,005 samples tested, bringing to 3,117,407 the cumulative number of tests. The country’s Covid-19 positivity rate drop from 15.9 to 13.5.

In a statement issued in Nairobi, on Wednesday, 12th January, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the cases, 656 are Kenyans while 157 are foreigners with 421 being males and 391 females. The youngest is a four-month-old while the oldest is 103.

Some 4,126 patients recovered from the disease, 3,968 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 158 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 276,019.

Sadly, seven patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in September 2021 and January 2022. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,469.

There are 1,201 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 17,443 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

At the same time, 47 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 44 of them on ventilatory support while three are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 301 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 293 of them are in the general wards and eight patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 11th January 2022, a total of 10,779,531 vaccines have been administered across the country. Of these, 6,103,780 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,583,839.

Another 24,910 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 67,002 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.1 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 16.8 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
