Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has suspended the reopening of schools which was slated for Monday, 15th August.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 13th August CS Magoha noted that all Basic Education institutions will reopen on Thursday 18th August.
According to CS Magoha the changes have been occasioned by an expected delay in the vote tallying process.
“Following the conduct of our National Elections on Tuesday 9th August, 2022 the process of tallying of ballots is still ongoing. Therefore, following furtherconsultations.I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the suspension of the re-opening of ALL Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, 15th August, 2022 until Thursday 18th August, 2022,” reads Magoha’s statement.
Magoha said that the communication supersedes any earlier communication on the re-opening of basic education institutions.
CS Magoha had earlier warned that the opening date of schools may change depending on the environment of the 9th August general elections.
He noted that the dates were tentative and subject to change in the event the elections go into a repeat. He also warned of the national examinations calendar being affected.
