Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya last evening waded into online controversy after making a dubious statement about locusts.
Munya claimed that the locusts that have invaded the country are too old to destroy any food crops and other vegetation.
Speaking in Meru County after witnessing the aerial spraying of the insects, the CS said they had observed that the current swarms of locusts could not cause any damage.
“We have been in the air and have seen that these locusts are too old and cannot eat any food crops or vegetation. These are yellow, meaning they are about to die.
“We should now try to understand this new science. That’s why, you see, they can’t fly, as they are old. They can only mate, which is what we are controlling,” Munya said.
He assured the people that there was no cause for alarm because the situation was under control.
But this was bound to heated conversation on social media platforms, and it surely did.
Kenyans online took their time to troll Munya, making him the laughing stock of social media.
They compared him to his predecessor, Mwangi Kiunjuri, who also came under fire after asking Kenyans to take pictures of insects they suspect to be locusts and send them to the government for confirmation.
Here are some the hilarious screenshots we took for you.
