A four-year-old boy was yesterday evening attacked and killed instantly by a swarm of bees in Masinga, Machakos County. He was herding livestock with his seven-year-old cousin, who survived the attack in Wamboo Village in Masinga Sub-County.
Masinga Sub-County Police Commander Francis Sirole told reporters that the victim had visited his grandfather at Wamboo from his Mikameni Village home.
“The survivor was treated at IkalaKala Hospital and discharged,” he said.
The victim’s body was taken to Yatta Funeral Home in Kithimani.
The local police chief advised parents and guardians to avoid sending youngsters deep into the forests to look after cattle during this long coronavirus school holiday.
“Closely monitor and ensure the safety of your children, even as they help out with home chores.”
Leaders, including former Yatta MP Francis Kilonzo, have appealed to parents, guardians and local administrators and village elders to monitor children’s activities to ensure their safety during this holiday.
