Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Wambua has said that majority of boda boda operators in the remote parts of the county are not adhering to the Covid-19 safety guidelines.
Addressing a group of riders at Kabaa Trading Centre in Mwala Sub-County, Wambua said the disease could easily spread across the county due to the negligence.
“You must get serious with how we are conducting your activities because this virus can infect anyone and you are not an exception,” he said.
The deputy governor said there would be an explosion of Covid-19 if a number of boda boss riders contracted the respiratory illness.
“You all ferry different people from different areas in a day, therefore, if you do not ensure your safety and that of you passengers, it will become a chain of Covid-19 infections at long last,” he lamented
Muthetheni MCA Jeremiah Munguti, who had accompanied Wambua, pleaded with the locals to report anyone who sneaks into the county.
“Even if it is your loved ones, report them because they may end up spreading the virus to you,” Munguti said.
He noted that Kenyans should work with the government to fight and eliminate the disease.
