Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has sent a passionate appeal to county residents to avoid unnecessary movements and make it easier to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking in Mombasa Town this morning, 22nd April, Joho said the County Coronavirus Committee was delivering food to people’s doorsteps so that they do not have any reason to keep moving around, risking contracting and spreading the deadly virus.
“We are bringing food to you at home. Don’t make life hard for all of us. Covid-19 is at our doorsteps. If we invite it, it will finish us.
“The food distribution team led by Kenya Red Cross chairman M. Sheikh will reach to you. It has all your names and will come knocking on your doors.”
Chairman Sheikh said the multi-sectoral team was working with a number of volunteers who were sacrificing a lot to support the cause.
“We want to do this in a peaceful manner, avoiding the incidents that have been witnessed elsewhere.”
Thanking his fellow leaders and well-wishers for coming together in different ways to ease the people’s suffering, Joho said: “Covid-19 has equalised all for it is a fight for everyone.
“Today, we do not know who is opposing who, who is in this faith and who is in the other. Our conversation in Mombasa is about how we shall all collectively fight the coronavirus disease.”
The county coronavirus committee started distributing food to needy families yesterday.
