DP Ruto Lectures Uhuru Allies Who Have Endorsed Raila For The Presidency

Deputy President William Ruto has dared a section of Jubilee leaders supporting the presidential candidature of ODM leader Raila Odinga to leave the ruling party.

DP Ruto said the group, which largely identifies itself with President Uhuru Kenyatta, should do the honourable thing and resign from the JP.

Speaking during a session with religious leaders in Mombasa County, the Deputy President said it would be out hypocritical of anyone to stick to a party whose ideology she or he does not believe in.

“You have said your candidate is at Orange House, what are you doing in Pangani? Just leave and move where your choice is. Is that very difficult?” he posed.

He declared that his bid to succeed President Kenyatta in 2022 was on.

“Out of 8 million Jubilee supporters, they have said no one is fit to lead this country. Let them go to Orange House then I will meet them at the ballot,” the DP said.

His statement comes days after a number of the President’s allies confirmed that they had endorsed Raila for the Presidency in 2022.

In the arrangement, which will only work if the envisaged Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is passed, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth has been proposed for the position of an Executive Prime Minister.

Jubilee vice-chairperson David Murathe and Cotu Secretary-General Francis Atwoli said time had come for Raila to become the President.

“Raila Odinga will succeed Uhuru Kenyatta. In Mt Kenya, we have unanimously agreed to support Raila Odinga because of his tireless efforts to make Kenya a better country,” Murathe said.
