Deputy President William Ruto Friday bullishly claimed that currently there is no presidential candidate who can match his match.
Speaking in Kakamega, Dr. Ruto said chances are slim that he will not succeed his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to the second in command, his perceived competitors are a “bunch of confused individuals”.
He remarked that those who have expressed interest in fighting for the presidency are fearing a contest with him.
“There are very confused and disorganized. They don’t even know who should face me. I challenge them to pick one individual to compete with me, time is running out for them,” he said.
In a remark directed at ODM leader Raila Odinga, who is viewed as his main competitor, the DP said the former Prime Minister can only have a chance of defeating him on one condition.
“He must assemble all presidential candidates and rally them behind him. Otherwise, if that does not happen, there is competition, I’m sending them home early in the morning,” he said.
Additionally, the Deputy President said they were wasting their time seeking endorsement from the President.
“They should stop disturbing Uhuru Kenyatta. Uhuru is retiring next year and they should know that I’m the one whom they will be facing.”
He also hit out at those who were criticising his bottom-up economic model, insisting that it is the way to go.
He stated that those aspiring to become President next year should market their manifestos rather than attacking him every time they get a platform.
“If you are not happy with my model, let us know yours. What alternative do you have? The bottom-up approach will be a game-changer and turn around our economy,” he said.
