Deputy President William Ruto has broken his silence just moments after President Uhuru Kenyatta mafr major announcements in the bid to curb the coronavirus pandemic.
The second in command, through his official Twitter account, said welcomed President Kenyatta’s comprehensive measures to curb Covid-19.
Ruto told fellow Kenyans that everyone has a part to play in containing the pandemic, noting that personal behaviour was key to stopping the spread of the virus.
He urged Kenyans to keep on washing their hands,sanitising, social distancing, avoiding crowds and most importantly, staying at home.
“Dear Kenyans, HE Kenyatta has just outlined comprehensive measures by GoK to tackle the Covid-19 challenge and ALL of us have a part to play. At the heart of stopping the spread of the virus is personal behaviour,;washing hands,sanitizing, social distancing, avoid crowd, STAY HOME,” he tweeted.
Among the measures to contain the pandemic, President Kenyatta has announced a daily dusk to dawn curfew effective from Friday, 27th March.
The curfew will run between 7pm and 5am.
President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have also taken an 80 percent pay cut due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The President also announced that all Cabinet Secretaries and Chief Administrative secretaries will earn 30 percent and Public Secretaries, 20 percent less.
At the same time, he urged the Central Bank of Kenya to ask Parliament to enact the reduction of turnover tax rate from three percent to one percent for all micro small and medium enterprises.
His administration has been under pressure to roll out economic interventions to salvage the economy and cushion Kenyans against the effects of the coronavirus.
