Drama ensued on Monday morning at Iten County Referral Hospital in Elgeyo-Marakwet after six bandits allegedly stormed the facility to rescue a colleague.
Sources have disclosed that the suspected livestock thieves overpowered 10 police officers.
The patient, thought to be a bandit, was been manned by the officers round the clock just to ensure he did not escape.
He was being treated of gunshot wounds.
After he had been successful treated and the police were processing his discharge, suddenly the bandits armed with AK-47 rifles arrived.
They used force and managed to enter the ward where one of their own was being treated in and took off with him.
How they did it remains a puzzle.
After the 2 am incident, police combed the area but did not manage to make any arrests.
Meanwhile, a manhunt for the six criminals has been launched.
Bandits have been terrorizing innocent Kenyans in Baringo, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Turkana counties.
Despite government’s efforts to restore order through a joint operation conducted by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Police Service (NPS), the bandits remain unfazed, partly because they understand the terrain better, thus engaging the security personnel in hide and seek games.
Some politicians in the area have also been accused of funding banditry and providing the criminals with crucial intelligence.
