An elderly man has reportedly died while being transported to hospital on a wheelbarrow in Nyandarua County.

In a story that has caused an uproar on social media, the ailing man had spent hours on a horrible road inaccessible to motor vehicles and succumbed before reaching the health facility.

According to Nyandarua Live News – a Facebook platform that airs the county’s issues – the victim’s last four hours could only be described as “hell”.

No ambulance or any other vehicle could have picked him up as the road is in a terribly poor state.

“An aged man in Gathanji Ward, Nyandarua County, dies after means to take him to hospital failed. He did after a four-hour struggle on a poor road,” Nyandarua Live News posted.

Angry residents faulted Governor Francis Kimemia over their bad roads.

“Nyandarua County government is the biggest scam of all times,” a Facebook user, Paul Makich, wrote.

Another Facebook user, Mary Nderitu, said: “So sad, our greedy leaders are not ashamed of this?”

Another villager, Mary Wanjohi, remarked: “Nyandarua people should not blame anyone for this. They elect bad leaders and these are the consequences. In 2022, you should use your common sense.” had reported that a group of celebrities and other prominent people from Nyandarua had rebuked the leadership over lack of development.

Led by Bishop JJ Gitahi and Mugithi music maestro Samuel Muchoki aka Samidoh, the public figures demanded better good roads from their governor.

However, Kimemia dismissed the group, alleging that they had been paid by people interested in the gubernatorial seat to damage his reputation.
