Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has named Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria as the new Director-General for the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
Kiptoo, who has been serving in an acting capacity since December last year, replaces Pavel Oimeke, who left the regulator earlier this year.
Kiptoo’s appointment takes effect in July for a three-year tenure.
“Mr Kiptoo’s appointment follows a competitive recruitment in which he emerged top,” said EPRA chairman Jackton Ojwang said in a statement issued on Wednesday, 30th June.
Prior to his appointment, Kiptoo was a legal adviser at the Ministry of Energy and State Department of Petroleum and the chairman of the government’s first oil committee.
He has experience in the energy and petroleum sectors, with a bias in policy formulation, regulation, and project and structured finance. He was instrumental in drafting the Energy Act, 2019 and Petroleum Act, 2019.
