Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has joined Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya kwanza Alliance.

In a tweet seen by LitKenya.com on Saturday morning, 30th July, DP Ruto welcomed Sonko to the party.

“We welcome @MikeSonkoto Kenya Kwanza, the winning team,” he stated.

The move comes only two days after Sonko stated that he will not support ODM candidate Abdulswamad Nassir for Mombasa governor.

He threatened to support rival UDA candidate Hassan Omar for the Governor Seat if his running mate Ali Mbogo is not cleared to vie.

“It’s not about Sonko. Clear Ali Mbogo and let him be on the ballot, failure to which we shall support Hassan Omar. Take this to the bank,” Sonko said.

The High Court on Thursday revoked a petition by Sonko that sought to compel IEBC to include his name among the list of candidates who will contest for Mombasa County’s top seat come 9th August.

Sonko had filed the petition on grounds that he still had an active appeal case, pertaining to his 2020 impeachment, at the East Africa Court of Justice but the three-judge High Court bench upheld a Supreme Court ruling that found his ouster from office to be constitutional.

Reacting to the courts decision Sonko said the court was biased as his case was rushed to deny him justice.
