Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have arrested a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) manager, Joseph Chege Gikonyo, and his wife Lucy Kangai Stephen.
According to a statement issued by the EACC in Nairobi on Monday, 29th June, 2020, the two were picked up after an inquiry into the allegations was concluded.
Gikonyo has been under investigation since 2018. The EACC had obtained court orders to freeze his wealth estimated to be worth Ksh650 million then. His wife is a co-director in their company, Giche Limited.
According to EACC, the two accumulated assets amounting to Ksh597 million between 2010 and 2015, through the company.
The anti-graft agency’s CEO, Twalib Mbarak, said in the statement issued in Nairobi that the two had allegedly failed to pay Ksh38,692,694 taxes to the KRA.
