The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced that the prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene will remain unchanged for the next one month.

In a statement issued in Nairobi on Sunday, 14th November, EPRA said that the prices are inclusive of the eight per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

“The average landed cost of imported super petrol increased by 8.66 per cent from $557.74 per cubic metre in September 2021 to $606.06 per cubic metre in October 2021. Diesel increased by 11.17 per cent from $504.68 per cubic metre to $561.06 per cubic metre while Kerosene increased by 9.27 per cent from $477.75per cubic metre to $522.06 per cubic metre,” Epra said.

“Despite the increase in the landed costs, the applicable pump prices for this cycle have been maintained as ones in the previous cycle. The government will utilise the Petroleum Development Levy to cushion consumers from the otherwise high prices.”

The Free On Board (FOB) price of Murban crude oil lifted in October 2021 was posted at $69.73 per barrel, a decrease of 5.13 per cent from $73.50 per barrel in September 2021.

Over the same period, the mean monthly US dollar to Kenya shilling exchange rate depreciated by 0.80 per cent from Ksh110.21 per US dollar in September 2021 to Ksh111.10 per US dollar in October 2021.

As a result, a litre of super petrol in Nairobi will still retail at Ksh129.72, diesel Ksh110.60 while kerosene will be sold at Ksh103.54 per litre.

Those fuelling in Mombasa will pay Ksh127.46 for a litre of super petrol, Ksh108.36 for diesel and Ksh101.29 for kerosene.

In Kisumu, a litre of super petrol will go for Ksh130.12, diesel for Ksh111.30 and kerosene at Ksh104.26.

The pump prices announced will be in force from midnight, 15th November to 14th December 2021.
