Gachagua Names Powerful Man Behind Itumbi Abduction, Planned Murder

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly named former Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti as the mastermind of the alleged abduction of popular blogger Dennis Itumbi a few months before last year’s General Election.

Speaking in Kirinyaga during a thanksgiving church service, Gachagua claimed that Kinoti gave instructions for the execution of the digital strategist.

Itumbi was ostensibly a threat to the Azimio la Umoja team, which comprised then-President Uhuru Kenyatta and the coalition’s flag bearer Raila Odinga due to his strategic and controversial online operations that targeted the retired Head of State’s formation.

The second in command stated that the plot was scattered when Itumbi’s friends raised the alarm because he could not be reached.

“They wanted to kill him. Orders were given by Kinoti. They tracked him and bundled him into a car. The officers assaulted him as they figured out the location of the murder. It was either a container where Kenyans were killed in Upper Hill or Aberdare or River Yala.

“But because there is God, people posted online about his adduction and planned murder. The plotters developed cold feet. Kinoti called and told the officers to spare and dump him somewhere. The bishop has told us to forgive but it is not easy,” the DP said.

Thanking Itumbi for the role he played in distracting the Azimio group, Gachagua added that the blogger was close to President William Ruto though he was yet to be assigned any official duties.

“I know many have been asking about his position in government, I want to tell them that his office is simply called ‘come here, go there’. He is the President’s errand boy.”
