Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi have had a fantastic day in the village.
The couple purposed to spend the day in Hiriga village, Nyeri County where Gachagua was born.
They kick-started the Good Friday with an eight-kilometer trek to visit Gachagua’s aunt.
He reminisced the good old days growing up in the village.
“I woke up early this morning to visit my Auntie Gladys Gathoni. We exchanged greetings and shared lots of laughter. Our people remain hard working, aggressive and focused. My Auntie prayed for us, blessed us and treated us to a heavy breakfast of boiled maize and porridge.
“Seeing her makes me remember my late mother who looked exactly like her and talked like her. Parents are a blessing and we must always take care of them especially at old age,” he wrote on his social media pages.
Later, the duo mingled with the locals freely. Though the security was still around just to ensure the two were safe, officers kept distance as Gachagua and Pastor Dorcas held lively chats with the villagers.
Some were very excited to shake hands and talk with the DP and his wife face to face.
However, one moment almost ruined the the good day.
Gachagua met an elderly woman who was rocking a leso branded with Jubilee Party colours. Hiriga village is considered a UDA stronghold while Jubilee is associated with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has not been seeing eye to eye with Gachagua.
The DP was seen pointing at the leso, probably asking the woman never to wear it again.
