Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane has announced the closure of the county’s borders with Isiolo and Wajir to restrict movement in the war against coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 23rd April, the county boss said the decision was due to the increased cases of people sneaking into Garissa from the high-risk areas.
The governor also urged security personnel to intensify surveillance along the Kenya-Somalia border following reports of cases of Covid-19 at Kobiyo in Somalia.
He also announced that the county would assist 6,000 vulnerable families during this holy month of Ramadhan and appealed to the faithful to observe prayers at home.
Governor Korane appealed to the people to continue complying with the curfew in order to fight the pandemic.
On Wednesday, 22nd April, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i declared a cessation of movement by air and road into and out of Mandera County from 7pm. He cited an increase in community-based Covid-19 infections.
