Gor Mahia began its Caf Confederation Cup campaign with a crucial away win after thrashing Al Ahly Merowe of South Sudan 3-1 in an entertaining match played on Friday night, 15th October at Suez Stadium in Egypt.

The match was played in Egypt because stadiums in Sudan have not been cleared by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

Ahmed Abok gave Al-Ahly a lead in the 42nd minute but Samuel Onyango levelled the scoreline in the 58th minute through penalty after Al Ahly Marowe defender handed the ball in the box.

The second goal for K’Ogalo came in the 65th minute courtesy of youngster Benson Omalla.

Burundian international Jules Ulimwengu sealed the win for Gor Mahia with a 70th minute goal.

K’Ogalo now shifts focus to the return leg which will be played at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday 24th October.

The aggregate winner of the two-legged tie moves to the second round of the group stage qualifiers where they will be paired against teams dropping from the Champions League first round.
