Defending FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia registered their second win, thrashing Mathare United 3-1 in a match played at Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi, on Thursday, 14th January.
The Green Army took the lead in the third minute through Charles Momanyi before Kenneth Muguna added the second goal 15 minutes later to make it 2-0 at the break.
In the second half, Mathare United pulled one back through Dani Lual’s penalty kick in the 75th minute. Gor got the third goal in the 89th minute through Alphonse Onyango.
However, drama erupted in the last minutes of the game and both teams finished the game with 10 men following the sending off of Mathare’s James Kinyanjui and Gor forward Nicholas Kipkirui after both players were involved in a scuffle.
With the win, K’Ogalo moved to 11th place on the FKF PL table, while Mathare United remained in bottom place.
Today’s match was the first assignment for newly appointed Gor Mahia coach Carlos Manuel Van Pinto.
The 46-year-old Portuguese tactician, who signed a two-year deal with the club, replaced Brazilian Roberto Oliveira, who was sacked last month for lack of coaching papers required to oversee Caf matches.
Gor Mahia will next face Western Stima on Monday, 18th January while Mathare United will clash with Zoo Kericho the same day.
