Governor Kiraitu And Wife Humiliated During Church Service: ‘Hatukuchagui’

Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi is walking a tight rope as he seeks a second and final term in office.

In a recent revival prayer summit in Meru, the county boss and his wife, Priscilla Murungu, had the shock of their lives after the congregants vowed not to elect him again.

The humiliation started after Priscilla asked the Christians if they had seen the good work her husband has done in Meru.

The people disagreed with her, painting to her a harsh reality that await her spouse.

“Can I see how many people will elect Kiraitu here?” she asked.
Again, no one raised their hand up to show support for the governor.

Embarrassed, the county First Lady gave the microphone to her husband.

Kiraitu calmly said he was not happy with how his wife was accorded a numbed reception.

“In our culture, you don’t demoralise the husband in the presence of his wife. When the wife is around, the man deserves some respect but she is not there, you can tell him anything.

“You when I go home, I want to stamp my authority as a man. That was not good. I have one request to you; even those who will not vote me, please clap for my wife,” he said, throwing the crowd into fits of laughter.

Barely two weeks, the county chief announced that he would partner with ODM leader Raila Odinga under Azimio la Umoja in the forthcoming election.

He ignored Deputy President William Ruto, who is perceived to have a fanatical following in the Mt Kenya region.

His main competitors in the race are Senator Mithika Linturi, who has the backing of the DP, and Woman Reprentative Kawira Mwangaza, an independent candidate.
