Outgoing Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has endorsed former Transport Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Wavinya Ndeti as his successor.

Mutua publicly made the announcement on Saturday, 31st July during their Kenya Kwanza rally in Machakos County.

Despite, Kenya Kwanza having Johnson Muthama as their candidate in the Machakos race, Mutua asked voters to turn out in large numbers on 9th August to elect Ndeti who is allied to the Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya coalition.

“I have served you as governor and I am about to leave office. I want to tell you my preferred successor. On August 9, I am voting for Wavinya Ndeti as governor because she is the only one who can develop this county,” he said.

Wavinya has welcomed the endorsement, saying it is “a big plus” and that she is confident she will emerge the winner.

“I graciously accept the valuable endorsement by the outgoing governor Dr. Alfred Mutua and treasure his public commitment to vote for me,” wrote Ndeti.

Ndeti termed Mutua’s move as the clearest indication that her team is best suited to steer the county forward.

“It’s a big plus for us and goes a long way to demonstrate confidence that only our team has what it takes to steer the County.

“Getting all sons and daughters of the soil rallying behind my candidature is a true testament of the clarion call of Masaku Kwa andu ma Masaku, unlike the other camp of crooked imposters. Indeed we are winning big,” she said.

Mutua’s support for Wavinya of the Wiper Party comes days after his deputy Francis Maliti dropped out of the race in favour of Wavinya.

Ndeti will be facing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Chairman Johnson Muthama and former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita of Chama Cha Uzalendo.
