Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati on Thursday, 19th March, suspended all county operations and church functions in a move to stop the spread of the dreaded coronavirus.
The Health and Finance departments and the Office of the Governor are the only ones that will remain open from tomorrow Friday, 20th March.
Speaking in Mabanga at a meeting to brief senior officers on a raft of measures to stave off the threat of coronavirus, the governor said he had suspended all county operations except strictly essential services.
“Henceforth, unless otherwise called upon, all county employees in departments other than the three shall work from home,” he directed.
The governor also banned market days in the county for the next 30 days.
He said that only markets serving small communities and neighbourhoods would be allowed to operate.
Addressing a meeing also attended by County Commissioner Abdi Hassan, Governor Wagamati also directed that burials take place in under 24 hours.
He said such organisers at such burials must provide running water and soap to all those in attendance.
