A lot has happened in the life of Joe Ben Nyokabi within one week. An up-and-coming content creator, who was on the verge of giving up, is now a national star.
Joe surged into the limelight when he mimicked Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s running mate, Martha Karua’s Kikuyu accent.
“Haroo, Assimio, Raira ni msarendo,” he said, imitating Karua’s words while selling her boss, Raila, in the Mt Kenya region.
Joe did the video for fun, not knowing that it would change his life.
Though initially some people used his clip to troll Karua for her pronunciation, but Azimio turned the game around.
Last week, the Narc-Kenya party leader met Joe and they hilariously tried to recreate the video.
It is during his meeting with Karua that it emerged that the comedian had not paid his rent for months and was struggling with other bills. Karua bailed him out.
And as he continues to bask in the glory of his work, the Tiktoker has landed an ambassadorial deal.
A popular tours and travels agency has contracted him as their advertiser.
“Harrroooo! from @MaasaiSafaris. Wasarendo, Travel with the best na kitu poa ni hakuna pressure ya kulipa juu unaweza commit kidogo kidogo uende holiday ama kavacation. Jitreat naniii!” he said in a video while marketing the company.
Meanwhile, his video on Karua has clocked more than a million views on TikTok.
His following on TikTok has also crossed the 11,000 mark.
Never give up your dreams even when the future looks bleak.
