Outpatient services at a health centre in Rongo, Migori County, have been temporarily suspended after 10 health workers tested positive for Covid-19.

The County Chief Officer Public Health, Phidale Majiwa, confirmed the partial closure of Lwala Community Alliance Health Centre.

The decision was reached after 10 medical officers from the facility tested positive for Covid-19.

According to a letter from the management, the decision was reached in accordance with the Covid-19 regulations from Ministry of Health.

The letter read: “Some services such as maternity care are still being offered under strict Covid-19 guidelines.”

Majiwa said that the county Health Department was working hand in hand with the health facility for contact tracing of the people who might have interacted with the 10 medical personnel confirmed to have contracted the deadly respiratory disease.

He also explained that the 10 affected medical officers were among the 14 cases that were reported for the county on the 15th October 2020.
