Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has become a laughing stock after virtually attending a Senate session from his new office, as he claimed.
Kang’ata was read a statement to his colleagues when it emerged that he was not in an appropriate place.
At first, the lawmaker indicated he wanted to read the statement without being seen, but Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka insisted that his counterparts must see his face.
However, one of the senators could be heard in the background saying that Kang’ata was in a bar somewhere along Thika Road.
When senators were able to his face, they also laughed.
Lusaka asked: “Where are you?”
He responded: “In my office.”
However, it was evident that the senator was in an entertainment joint.
Lusaka blocked him from speaking.
“You are in… where are you? No! No! No! I’m sorry we cannot allow that. The rules are very clear on where you should be,” he said.
One of Kang’ata’s colleagues shouted: “He is in Sabina Joy.” Sabina Joy is a famous brothel along Moi Avenue in Nairobi’s CBD.
Whether Kang’ata was there or not is something we cannot substantiate.
Nevertheless, Kenyans took to social media platforms to share teasing and hilarious reactions. See the comments below:
@Cjmehk: “So Murang’a senator wanted to contribute to the Senate from Sabina Joy? Haha! Disband that house.”
Irungu Nyakera: “One would easily ask, what is the role of a senator and why us the Murang’a Senator spending his time at Sabina Joy when his residents are in anguish?”
Resian: “Most of you do not know where Sabina Joy is. Anyway, the end justifies the means.”
Dennis Onsarigo: “We have God and the people and we are the ones Gods listens to because we don’t drink as others do…”
Former Thuraku: “What is the big deal about Irungu Kang’ata being in Sabina Joy which is owned by Murang’a businesspeople? It is a business and he should only have been required to reduce the noise in the background like if you in your house.”
