Hotel Manager Arrested For Allowing Meeting of Over 700 Youth

A hotel manager and one other man have been arrested in Machakos County for allowing a meeting of 720 youth in contravention of the guidelines to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Officers from Athi River Police Station raided Maanzoni Lodge this morning, 31st March, and made the arrests.

Makueni County Commissioner Esther Maina said her office had received information that there was a big meeting going on at the hotel situated at Lukenya, Athi River.

“We went to the hotel and to our shock, it was true,” she said.

The two suspects are being held at Athi River Police Station and will be arraigned soon.

They will be charged with violating the ban on public gatherings.

The young people are being confined at hotel and will be examined for coronavirus.

The county commissioner issued a stern warning against the people defying the government’s precautionary measures on the outbreak.
