The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has invited all four presidential candidates for a consultative meeting scheduled for Friday, 29th July.
In a letter issued on Thursday, 28th July by IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan, the Commission said it had taken note of concerns raised by some of the representatives of presidential candidates regarding the printing of results for 34 A and 34 B.
“The purpose of this letter is to invite you and/or your representatives to a consultative meeting to address the concerns raised on Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Bomas of Kenya at 11.00 am,” part of the letter by IEBC read.
This comes after Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga demanded an urgent meeting with IEBC over the alleged printing of an extra booklet for the presidential declaration forms.
In a letter from his Chief Legal Advisor Paula Mwangi, Odinga stated that the explanation the coalition’s two agents got while in Athens, Greece was unsatisfactory.
Mwangi says their agents also observed something unusual in the printing of form 34 A.
“Our team picked up that there were two books of Form 34As which were labelled as Book 1 of 2 and Book 2 of 2. The team sought clarification from the explanation given that extra Form 34As were needed in each polling station because there was a need to give copies to election observers, media, and other stakeholders. We reject the explanation,” Mwangi said in a letter.
The ODM leader raised questions on the IEBC failure to print form 34B.
“There is no room for the commission to exercise any discretion in this matter. The commission must print Form 34Bs on the same footing as it has printed Form 34A,” Mwangi stated in his letter.
“I raised these issues at the Airport when we attended the ceremony to receive the first batch of Presidential ballot papers.”
