Flamboyant hip-hop musician Prezzo today, 9th January, celebrated his 40th birthday, happy to hit the landmark, but he was looking forward to making an even bigger impression as an artiste.
Prezzo, whose real name is Jackson Ngechu Makini, took to his Instagram to let all know that he is now older and wiser. He was born in 1980 in Nairobi, and is a bit of a politician and also an actor on Kenyan reality show ‘Nairobi Diaries’.
He was solely raised in the Eastleigh neighbourhood by his mother, Dinna Makini, after his father’s death in 1993.
He wrote on his Instagram hours before his birthday:
“Looking back, it’s hard to believe that by midnight I’ll get into the elevator of life with two angels by my side and say “4th floor please” 😎 all I can say is Alhamdulillah.”

Prezzo’s marriage and divorce
He is engaged to Yvonne Oyola after his wife Daisy Jematia Kiplagat filed for divorce in May 2012, accusing him of committing adultery and physical abuse. He did not challenge it. High Court Judge Luka Kimaru granted Daisy’s application and ordered Prezzo to pay a monthly upkeep of Ksh50,000 for their baby, who was born in March 2009. They had separated since November 2011.
Prezzo and Daisy had separated four years after they solemnised their marriage on December 2008, at Karen Country Lodge, Nairobi.
Prezzo’s music career and journey
Prezzo was exposed to music at a very early age. He released his first album in 2004. He released his Naleta Action album, which has the hit songs Naleta Action, Leo ni Leo, Mimi na Wewe, Let’s Get Down, Mahangaiko, Mafans and Tazama Mbele.
He also participated in the seventh season of the continental reality TV competition, Big Brother Africa, in 2012, where he emerged as the first runner-up.
Prezzo is well known for his flashy lifestyle with expensive jewellery, lavish clothing, and expensive cars, among other fine things of life.
His role model is former US President Barack Obama and he believed in his ‘yes, we can’ mantra.
Prezzo and politics
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka confirmed through his Twitter that Prezzo will view on the party’s ticket in the 2022 elections.
He had been expected to run as the Wiper candidate in late last year’s Kibra parliamentary by-election but did not.
He would have lined against Jubilee’s Macdonald Mariga, a retired international soccer star, and the eventual winner, ODM’s Bernard Imran Okoth.
Kalonzo would later confirm that Prezzo will vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat in 2022 General Election.
